If you
find yourself with a couple of hours with nothing to do on a sunny day, then why not go crab
fishing at Blakeney quay?

All
you need is a packet of bacon ( the smellier the better and available at
the spar, ) a crab line (
which you can buy at Stratton Long Marine Blakeney or at the Blakeney Spar,) a
large bucket and a net if possible. Then all you need to do is sit back
and wait for the crabs to come.
If you are
feeling very organised we have found a couple of deckchairs and a flask
of tea for mum and dad well worth the effort.

Please
do not use hooks and remember that the best time to fish is on an
incoming tide as this is when the crabs naturally feed.
At high tide the water is fairly deep and we have found armbands, a
lifejacket or buoyancy aid are a good precaution for non swimming
toddlers, although none of ours have ever fallen in touch wood !

Also remember to release the crabs carefully at the end of your fishing & watch out
for the sea gulls ! The gulls will also be very grateful for any bits of
bacon left over.
Hand washing facilities are available in
the toilets opposite the national trust car park. For a family friendly
sit down lunch or coffee and cake try the Moorings about 10 yards up the high
street on the left-highly recommended.
A very good selection of ice creams & lolly ices
are available from the ice-cream kiosk opposite the quay, or from the
Blakeney spar. Take away cappuccinos and lattes for mums, dads &
grandparents are available at the
deli
about 50 yard up the high street and take away teas available from the
caravan in the national trust car park.
