Best sandy beach in North Norfolk

Without a doubt I think most residents and visitors to North Norfolk would agree with us, that the huge sandy beach at Wells next the Sea is arguably North Norfolk’s most famous and most beautiful sandy beach. The first time I saw the beach at Wells Next The Sea it simply took my breath away. I was not expecting to find such a spectacular and huge sandy beach, as I climbed the steps from the woodland track, that leads to the beach. I was immediately convinced that it was the beach from the film Pirates of the Caribbean, much to my children’s amusement.

The beach at Wells Next The Sea extends all the way along the coast past Holkham. It is incredibly beautiful, as it is backed by pine trees and pretty painted beach huts, and is North Norfolk’s most iconic beach. The beach is very popular with families and dog walkers. Dogs are not allowed on the first section of the beach, to keep the beach clean for families. There is lots of car parking at the beach car park near the beach, but be prepared to arrive early in school holidays or bank holidays to get a space, and there is a short walk to the beach through the pine forest. The very nice Wells beach cafe is in the car park.

Another added bonus is that you can easily walk or drive from the beach car park to Wells Next The Sea town for fish and chips or to visit the shops, cafe and restaurants.

Best small beach in North Norfolk

The small beach at Sheringham is perfect if you just want a quick visit to the beach with small children followed by fish and chip and a spot of shopping. There are lots of interesting rock pools on the beach, and It is only a very short walk to get fish and chips and ice cream. We used to visit this beach a lot when are children where toddlers and had little stamina. Its also a good one to visit if you just want to see the sea while you eat your icecream.

Best traditional beach in North Norfolk

Cromer is a traditional Victorian seaside resort with a Pier and a wide sandy beach. it is very popular with surfers and swimmers. There are lots of nearby facilities, so the beach is also popular with families. Parking is available on the Cliff top but access is steep. There is also parking in Cromer town. The pier at Cromer is also popular for fishing and crab fishing. Cromer was originally a fishing village and Cromer crab still caught there, is famous the world over.
