Best places for fish and chips on North Norfolk coast

Our top 5 places to go for fish and chips if your staying In Blakeney

We really are spoilt for choice here in North Norfolk, when it comes to fish and chips and seafood, as we have miles and miles of coastline.

  1. Wells Next The Sea Quay-our number one place to go for fish and chips on a sunny day. There are two fish and chips shops on the quay at Wells next the sea and they are both very popular. Our personal favourite Is French’s Fish and Chips because we have bean going there since are youngest was 2 and he is now 19! If you fancy something a bit more up market there is a new seafood restaurant that has opened just around the corner called the Wells Crab House which is also excellent. It is very popular, so it is wise to book at weekends and in school holidays.

  2. The White Horse Pub in Blakeney-another one that we have been going to now for over 17 years and their Ghost ship beer battered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce never fails to delight. The portions at The White Horse in Blakeney are enormous so if you have a smaller appetite or are dieting you may need to share with a friend or order a child’s portion (no mushy peas with the children’s portion sadly). Their fish and chips is so good I think its addictive.

  3. Cromer-There are several excellent fish and chip shops in Cromer. Number 1 at Cromer is rather special as it owned by the well known chef, Galton Blackiston, and is definitely worth a visit for the fabulous location over looking the beach and pier at Cromer and the fish and chips are excellent too. Number 1 has a choice of two restaurants and a take away, one cafe style ,the other upstairs is more up market and there is lobster and crab on the menu. Cromer is famous for its crab, which is caught by by local fishermen.

  4. Sheringham-just down the coast from Cromer is the pretty seaside town of Sheringham and there are several good fish and chips shops here. Our personal favourite is Dave’s Fish Bar on Cooperative road, as we’ve been going here since the children were little. Buy your fish and chips and then walk down to the seafront to enjoy them if its sunny or sit in the 70 seater cafe style restaurant if the weather is not so good. Good value for money and very tasty fish and chips.

  5. Rocky Bottoms-off the coast road half way between East Runton-on and West Runton. Rocky Bottoms was recommended to us by a friend and is something a bit special, with beautiful views and a very rustic interior design. Eat in to take away. Lobster and garlic prawns are excellent.
