Hollyhock Seeds Free Seed Offer
Hollyhock season
It’s hollyhock season earlier than ever this year in Blakeney on the North Norfolk coast ! Thanks to an incredibly mild winter followed by a dry, sunny spring and early summer, our cottage garden favourites have shot up in record time. The tall spires are already bursting into bloom, bringing that classic, romantic charm to the garden weeks ahead of schedule. It’s been a real treat to see them swaying in the sunshine so early in the season – a sure sign that summer has truly arrived in Norfolk.
Bring a touch of cottage charm to your garden with our Hollyhock seeds
If you’ve ever wandered through an English cottage garden and admired the tall, graceful spires of hollyhocks swaying in the breeze, you’re not alone. These beautiful biennials are a favourite here at Gardeners Cottage in Blakeney, where they flourish along sun-drenched walls and in the borders of our nature-friendly North Norfolk garden.
We’re delighted to offer free packets of our homegrown hollyhock seeds – lovingly collected by hand and grown without pesticides, making them as kind to pollinators as they are beautiful in bloom.
Grown the nature-friendly way
All our hollyhock seeds come from plants grown in our pesticide-free cottage gardens here in Norfolk. We garden with wildlife in mind, encouraging bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects to thrive alongside the flowers. By choosing seeds grown this way, you're supporting a more natural and sustainable style of gardening – something that’s close to our hearts.
How to grow Hollyhocks from seed
Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just starting out, hollyhocks are surprisingly easy to grow from seed. They’re perfect for adding that romantic, vertical interest to your garden and will happily self-seed once established. They are also incredibly drought tolerant, once established and will grow very happily in poor soil.
You can sow them in late summer or early spring, either straight into the ground or in pots or trays to get them started. Hollyhocks prefer full sun and well-drained soil – and they do like to be planted where they’ll have space to grow tall.
Once sown, keep the soil lightly moist and wait for the magic to begin. With a little care in their first year, you’ll be rewarded with towering flower spikes the next summer – in lovely shades that complement any cottage garden scheme.
We’ve put together a simple step-by-step guide to help you grow hollyhocks successfully, even if you’re new to gardening. You can find it here:
