Butternut Squash Seeds – Cottage Garden Collection

Butternut squash is easy to grow and will produce multiple edible squash fruits on each plant in a single season.

Butternut squash plants need a lot of space and will spread out 10-12 feet if left to grow naturally. We plant them on the edge of gravel paths, so they can grow without using much of the cultivated border. You can also grow vertically by training up poles or netting, but ensure the support is strong enough to hold the weight of multiple butternut fruits in autumn.

Our Butternut Squash Seeds are collected by hand from garden grown fruits here in Norfolk. We are confident this strain grows well in the average English summer, producing good size butternuts with a rich orange flesh.

  • ☀️ Position: Full sun, in rich, well-drained soil.

  • 📏 Spacing: 90cm to 2-meter apart to allow for sprawling vines to spread.

  • 🌾 Harvest: Autumn, when the skin hardens and the squash reaches full colour.

Packet contains: Premium quality Butternut Squash seeds grown in our cottage garden in Norfolk, UK. Seeds stored will germinate reliably for 2-3 years.

Growing instructions for sowing Butternut squash seeds in the UK in pots & containers

For an early start, sow Squash seeds indoors in pots under glass in a coldframe, conservatory or greenhouse or on a warm, sunny windowsill. Use good-quality potting compost and plant seeds about 2-3cm deep, keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. Ensure temperatures stay above 18°C (65°F) to encourage germination. Once seedlings are strong enough and all risk of frost has passed, they can be hardened off and transplanted into larger containers or directly into the garden. If growing in pots, choose a large container (at least 30cm wide) and provide a sturdy support for trailing vines. Keep well-watered and feed regularly with a high-potash fertiliser for strong growth and an abundant harvest.

Perfect for gardeners who love growing their own seasonal produce while adding a touch of rustic beauty to their garden!
