Cottage Garden Evening Primrose Seeds

Evening Primrose is a Cottage Garden favorite flowering in late summer through to autumn, producing masses of buttercup yellow flowers

Eveining Primrose best grown as a biannual. However seed sown in early spring will flower the same year in good summers.

The strong yellow flowers typically open in the evening, hence its name, fading overnight.

Flowering stems are up to 5-feet tall


Why Grow Evening Primrose as a border flower?

  • 🏡 Ideal for Mixed Cottage Gardens – Producing a rosettes of attractive slightly hairy leaves followed by upright see through stems peppered with flowers.

  •  A traditional heirloom cottage garden flower, perfect for rustic mixed self-seeding and replicating cottage gardens.

  • Provides a structurally interesting seed pod stem in the late summer border.

Growing Information:

  • 🌱 Sow: In late summer and autumn by scattering the seeds in their final flowering position. Alternatively, in seed compost and transplant to growing position when the plants are at the 6 leaf stage.

  • ☀️ Position: Ideal full sun, or mixed border and tolerates very poor and gravel-filled soils

  • 📏 Spacing: mature plants can form crowns 8-12-inches across  and will send up 4-8 stems. Grow as single plants

  • 🌾 Harvest: collect seed from totally brown seed heads in Autumn and store for sowing the following spring or scatter immediately.
