Cottage Garden Verbena Bonariensis seed

This is the tall variety of hardy verbena, a late summer, free-flowering cottage garden plant with a very open habit making it ideal to grow between or behind lower plants.

Verbena Bonariensis flowers at between 2 and 5 feet on tall self-supporting stems spreading around 2 feet. Flowers in July and throughout August

Great architectural value and well worth growing in a mixed cottage garden border.

Why Grow Tall Verbena?

  • 🏡 Ideal for Mixed Cottage Gardens – Producing upright seethrough support for other plants and climbers. A traditional heirloom cottage garden flower, perfect for rustic mixed self-seeding and replicating cottage gardens.

  • Late flower power and has real impact in the middle os a border or in large drifts

Growing Information:

  • 🌱 Sow: any time of year by scattering the seeds in their final flowering position. Alternatively, in seed compost and transplant to growing position when the plants are at the 4 leaf stage before the full tap root develops.

  • ☀️ Position: Ideal full sun, or mixed border and tolerates very poor and gravel-filled soils

  • 📏 Spacing: mature plants can form crowns 8-12-inches across  and will send up 4-8 stems. Grow as single plants, Verbena grows well in gravel and can manage in large pots or containers but may need some support.

  • 🌾 Harvest: seed from brown seed head in Autumn and sow immediately. or leave to seed naturally
